Arunachal Pradesh Deputy CM calls for revival of indigenous games
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has called for renewed efforts to preserve the state’s indigenous games and pass sporting traditions to younger generations. Speaking at the conclusion of the Seva Sankalp Utsav in Itanagar, Mein noted that while these games have historically been central to community life, participation is gradually declining.
The event featured the RANGOLI state-level traditional sports competition, which includes six disciplines: Tug of War, Bamboo Archery, Gulli Danda (Tang Guti), Bamboo Climbing, Dali Haka Hinam, and Bamboo Poles Running. The initiative aims to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline while fostering cultural pride among the youth.
Governor Lt. General K. T. Parnaik (Retd.) attended the program as the chief guest. The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, held from September 17 to October 17, was organized to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public service. The program also included Nukkad Natak street theatre to communicate social messages and share stories regarding the Prime Minister’s public journey.
