Arunachal Pradesh girl's viral video on identity sparks conversation
Karga Tinkle Gongo, a four-year-old girl from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, has gained widespread social media attention following a viral video in which she asserts her Indian identity. The video was prompted by an individual calling her ‘Chinese’ due to her physical appearance.
In the footage, the child expressed her distress, stating, ‘We are from India. When you call us Chinese, we get very angry and very sad. Call us Indian.’ Her mother noted that the incident occurred while she was recording Tinkle buying ice cream, during which a social media user questioned why a ‘Chinese child’ was speaking Hindi.
The emotional response has sparked a broader national conversation regarding racial stereotypes and the experiences of people from Northeast India who face identity-based scrutiny due to their facial features.
