Arunachal Pradesh Governor calls for floral diversity conservation

Arunachal Pradesh Governor K.T. Parnaik has called for strengthened efforts to protect the state’s rich floral diversity alongside ongoing development projects. During a meeting with Kanad Das, Director of the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), in Itanagar, the Governor highlighted the region's significant biological wealth, which includes over 5,000 flowering plant species, approximately 600 orchid species, more than 75 species of rhododendrons, and hundreds of medicinal plants.

To protect rare, endangered, and threatened (RET) species, the Governor advocated for a specialized conservation program. Proposed initiatives include GIS mapping, population monitoring, seed banking, and habitat restoration, to be carried out through collaboration between the forest department and local communities.

Governor Parnaik also emphasized the need for extensive botanical surveys in remote and previously inaccessible areas of the state. He suggested deploying more scientific personnel to ensure systematic documentation and research to safeguard the state's ecological security and promote sustainable livelihoods.
