Arverio faces major rail delays due to heat damage
The railway operator Arverio is facing significant service disruptions on the Riesbahn line, which runs from Aalen through Nördlingen to Donauwörth. Prolonged periods of high temperatures have damaged the track infrastructure, forcing DB InfraGO to implement several slow zones.
In one specific section near Wörnitzstein, trains are restricted to 20 km/h instead of the usual 100 km/h. Because the line is single-track, these delays compound and affect oncoming traffic, often resulting in delays exceeding 30 minutes. These issues are impacting the broader Augsburg network, causing missed connections and delays in train formations at Donauwörth.
Arno Beugel, Technical Managing Director of Arverio, described the current delays as “unreasonable for our passengers.” DB InfraGO has stated that repairs to the heat-damaged tracks are not expected to be possible until mid-November.
