Arvert murder investigation implicates two rugby players

Three suspects have been placed in pre-trial detention following the murder of a 30-year-old man in Arvert, Charente-Maritime. The incident occurred during the night of September 20 to 21, 2026, following an evening involving alcohol.

According to the La Rochelle prosecutor's office, the victim was reportedly involved in an altercation with local rugby and football players during a ‘third half’ at a local bar. After being initially asked to leave the establishment due to tensions, the victim was later found near his home, having sustained fatal facial fractures and cerebral contusions.

Two players from the US Trembladaise rugby club are among those implicated in the assassination. In response to the investigation, the club's management issued a statement condemning the actions as ‘unacceptable’ and confirmed that both players have been expelled from the club.
