Arvind Kejriwal and AAP Leaders Appear in Delhi High Court Contempt

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and several other party leaders entered appearance before a division bench of the Delhi High Court in a criminal contempt case. The case was initiated suo motu by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who alleged that the politicians had orchestrated a campaign of vilifying posts on social media against her during the excise‑policy litigation.

The court directed the complainant to provide digital evidence of the alleged deletions and ordered the respondents to file written replies within four weeks. The next hearing is set for 21 September. The bench also ordered fresh notice to be served on an unserved respondent and directed the registry to supply the material relied upon to all parties.

The contempt proceedings stem from Justice Sharma’s claim that the AAP leaders bypassed legal remedies and created a “parallel narrative” against the judiciary, raising concerns over the separation of powers and political accountability in India.
