Arvind Kejriwal accuses Meta of restricting his account under pressure from PM Narendra Modi

Arvind Kejriwal, national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, claimed that Meta Platforms restricted his Instagram account in India without providing a reason. He alleged the action was taken under pressure from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that other critics of the government have faced similar restrictions.

Kejriwal posted on X, asking Meta why his account was "restricted in some locations" and demanding an explanation, while accusing the company of "very poor service". He linked the issue to a broader government scrutiny of Meta over alleged promotion of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and deep‑fake content, which has led to meetings between Meta senior officials, including Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

During a 45‑minute meeting with MeitY secretary S. Krishnan, Meta officials explained the accidental removal of a video of Prime Minister Modi from Facebook. Kejriwal urged other users whose accounts have been limited to contact him, calling for collective pressure on Meta to stop what he described as government‑driven censorship.
