AAP and Goa Forward Party form ‘Goa First’ alliance

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Goa Forward Party (GFP) have officially announced a pre-poll alliance named ‘Goa First’ ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections. The alliance aims to present itself as a credible third alternative to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress.

During a press conference in Panaji, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal stated that the alliance was necessary because voters in Goa have felt they had no real choice between the two dominant parties for years. He alleged that the BJP and Congress have effectively worked together in the past, claiming that voters were ‘cheated twice’ when Congress MLAs helped the BJP form a government following previous elections.

GFP president Vijai Sardesai emphasized that the alliance prioritizes the interests of Goa and is open to other like-minded secular political forces. The ‘Goa First’ bloc seeks to unite the opposition to challenge the current ruling establishment. Both parties currently hold seats in the 40-seat legislative assembly, with AAP holding two and GFP holding one.
