Ary Mirelle defends João Gomes amid political criticism

Ary Mirelle, wife of singer João Gomes, has defended her husband following social media criticism regarding his lack of political positioning during the 2026 presidential election cycle. Mirelle addressed comments from content creator Josi Machado, who had questioned why forró artists, specifically citing Gomes, had not taken a stance on political issues affecting the Northeast region.

Mirelle revealed that Gomes is currently managing depression and requires medication to function and work. She explained that his silence is a result of severe emotional consequences and “extreme cancellation” following his political involvement in a previous election.

Furthermore, Mirelle reported that the family has been facing daily threats directed at their two infants. She denied allegations that the singer holds views contrary to Brazil or the Northeast, stating that he consistently celebrates his roots and his country.
