Aryna Sabalenka welcomes WTA decision on equal prize money

The WTA has announced that starting in 2027, all combined WTA 1000 tournaments will feature equal prize money for men and women. This expansion of pay equity follows existing parity at events such as Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, and Beijing. New tournaments joining this equalized structure in 2027 will include Rome, the Canadian Open, and Cincinnati.

World number two Aryna Sabalenka expressed her satisfaction with the decision, noting that it is the result of a long-standing battle by female players for fair treatment. She emphasized that the move provides a long-awaited sense of equality for women in the sport.

Additionally, Sabalenka was confirmed as one of the six WTA representatives on the newly formed Grand Slam Players’ Council. This body, which includes players such as Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, and Elina Svitolina, is designed to provide a direct platform for players to voice their opinions on prize money and other professional interests.
