Arzignano driver sentenced to six years for fatal August accident

A judge has sentenced 50-year-old Luca Beggiato to six years in prison following a fatal car accident in Arzignano. The incident occurred on the evening of August 15, 2025, on the provincial road 31 in Valchiampo.

Investigators determined that Beggiato, driving a Volkswagen Golf, crossed into the opposite lane and struck two scooters. The collision killed two 16-year-old boys, Giulio Pizzolato and Mattia Cardascia, who died shortly after being transported to San Bortolo Hospital in Vicenza. A third young person involved sustained less severe injuries.

Post-accident testing confirmed that the driver was positive for alcohol. While the prosecution had requested a ten-year sentence and the defense sought a four-year plea bargain, the court settled on six years. The ruling has caused significant distress among the victims' families.
