As Forcadas reservoir capacity drops to 40% amid water scarcity

The As Forcadas reservoir has dropped to 40.08% capacity, holding approximately 3.96 cubic hectometers of water. This decline is attributed to a prolonged lack of rainfall, with precipitation recorded on only six of the 28 days in September.

To address the situation, the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Comarca de Ferrol and Augas de Galicia have strengthened their coordination to ensure a stable water supply for the region. Officials met in Ferrol to discuss reservoir evolution, potential improvements to the regional supply system, and the condition of critical infrastructure, such as the pipeline crossing the As Pías bridge which serves Fene, Ares, and Mugardos.

Preventive measures have already resulted in a reduction of water consumption by 14,000 cubic meters. However, projections suggest that if rainfall does not increase significantly by October 26, the reservoir could fall to 26.81% capacity, which would necessitate opening lower conduits to maintain supply.
