AS Monaco Basket barred from French professional leagues for 2026‑27 season

The French Basketball Federation (FFBB) Appeals Committee rejected AS Monaco Basket’s appeal, confirming the club’s exclusion from the Betclic Elite and Elite 2 divisions for the 2026‑27 season. The decision was based on the club’s failure to provide sufficient financial guarantees and to submit the required documentation by the July 31 deadline. AS Monaco carries debts of about €24 million and its projected budget for the upcoming season is roughly €12.5 million, down from more than €38 million the previous year. A takeover plan led by Helen Holdings, an American investment fund headed by former NBA player Jamal Mashburn, includes a €7 million bank guarantee, but the plan has not yet satisfied the federation’s requirements. The club, the reigning French champion, may appeal the ruling to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) and, if necessary, to an administrative court. Monaco’s government thanked the principality’s institutions for supporting the restructuring effort.
