AS Monaco Basket Gets July 31 Extension on Insolvency Ruling

Monaco’s commercial court postponed a decision on whether to place AS Monaco Basket into cessation of payment until 31 July. The club, freshly crowned French champion, carries more than €24 million in liabilities – roughly €8 million in overdue debts and €16 million advanced by the state‑owned Société Nationale de Financement (SNF) since early 2026 to keep it running.

The court granted an amendment that extends the SNF loan to cover June salaries and pushes repayment to the end of July. Club officials said talks are underway with a potential buyer who could clear the debts and fund the next season. Meanwhile, the Ligue Nationale de Basket has withheld the club’s registration for professional competitions, and AS Monaco Basket has appealed to the French Basketball Federation’s appeal commission, requesting a stay until that body issues its decision (expected 24 July). The prosecutor argued that the law applies regardless of the club’s prestige, noting it cannot pay over €1 million owed to player agents, indicating a factual state of cessation.
