AS Monaco Basket seeks entry into ABA 2 League
AS Monaco Basket has officially submitted a request to the Adriatic Basketball Association to explore the possibility of joining the ABA 2 League for the 2026-27 season. The club is seeking a legal and regulatory assessment to determine the requirements for participation, including necessary licenses and registration procedures.
The move comes as the club faces a severe crisis in France. Following financial difficulties and an unsuccessful appeal to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), Monaco has been unable to secure a place in the top tiers of French basketball. Without a successful legal intervention, the club risks losing its professional status and being relegated to the fifth tier of the French national system, which is amateur in nature.
Joining the ABA 2 League, which features teams from former Yugoslavian territories, would provide the club with a professional competitive platform. While the club has previously expressed interest in the top-tier ABA League, the current focus is on the feasibility of entering the second division to ensure its continued professional operations.
