AS Monaco basketball club saved by US investment fund, avoids relegation
AS Monaco, the French basketball champion, faced a severe financial crisis that threatened its licence for the EuroLeague and even its place in the top division. The club was denied a financial guarantee by the league’s governing body and was on the brink of relegation.
An American investment fund, Helen Holdings, led by a former NBA All‑Star, took over the club, providing a €7 million bank guarantee and allowing the team to retain its elite status. The takeover will slash the club’s budget from €38 million to about €12.5 million for the next season, with the Monaco government expected to play a larger role in club management.
In the same off‑season, Monaco’s roster is set for major changes. Several key players are departing while new signings are being pursued as the club prepares for the 2026‑27 Betclic Élite campaign, a period that will shape the league’s hierarchy.
