AS Monaco faces football struggles and basketball financial crisis

Meanwhile, the Monaco basketball team, the reigning French champions, is facing a severe financial crisis that threatens its professional status. The French Basketball Federation has declined to admit the club to the top tier or the second professional league for the 2026/27 season. A previous investment plan led by former NBA star Jamal Mashburn failed to provide necessary financial guarantees.

As an alternative, a project involving Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho and the investment fund Clayton Sport has emerged. This group aims to provide multi-year financing to stabilize the club, address a debt of approximately 2.5 million euros owed to the EuroLeague, and secure the required bank guarantees to maintain the team's elite standing.
