AS Monaco submits second formal offer for Cruz Azul midfielder Erik Lira

AS Monaco has submitted a second formal offer to Cruz Azul to sign Mexican midfielder Erik Lira. Negotiations have progressed past initial inquiries and are currently focused on reaching an economic agreement between the two clubs.

Lira reportedly rejected a $14 million offer from Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates to prioritize a career in Europe. While an unnamed Premier League club has also shown interest, they are reportedly waiting to see the outcome of the Monaco negotiations.

Within the Cruz Azul locker room, there is reportedly mixed sentiment regarding the potential transfer. While many players and media figures support the move for his professional growth, some teammates are described as being “selfish” in their desire for him to stay to help the team pursue a Liga MX bicampeonato.
