As Neves resident identified as suspect in four forest fires

Authorities in Galicia have identified a resident of As Neves as the suspected perpetrator of at least four intentional forest fires. The investigation, conducted by the Xunta de Galicia’s Forest Fire Investigation Unit (UIFO) and the Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona), has been handed over to judicial authorities.

The series of fires began on May 21 and continued through June 22, July 17, and September 4. Due to the high risk of fire spreading and the danger posed to residents in the Altamira area, investigators implemented a surveillance operation using both human and technological resources. This monitoring allowed agents to gather evidence linking the suspect to the most recent incidents.

The Xunta de Galicia highlighted the active collaboration of the District Forest XVII environmental agents and forest firefighters, noting that their rapid intervention during the final fire helped prevent more significant damage.
