Dittaino-Enna Nuova railway workers announce eight-hour strike

Labor unions in Italy have announced an eight-hour strike per shift starting September 16 for workers involved in the Dittaino-Enna Nuova railway doubling project. The strike, organized by FenealUil, Filca Cisl, and Fillea Cgil, follows the unanimous rejection of a proposal by the Pacaed Consortium. Workers, specifically those engaged in traditional excavation in tunnels, claim the proposal is insufficient given their specialized roles and difficult working conditions.

Union leaders stated that workers should not bear the burden of a corporate spending review through reductions in recognized economic treatments. They argued that cost rationalization should instead target corporate structures, management costs, and leadership levels. While the strike has been proclaimed, unions remain open to dialogue to find a path that meets the legitimate demands of the workers.

Separately, various CGIL-led initiatives and events are scheduled across Italy, including a social journalism festival in Chieti and discussions regarding labor rights, social justice, and gender policies in Messina.
