AS Roma stadium project receives final administrative approval

The AS Roma football club has received final administrative approval for its new stadium project in the Pietralata district of Rome. The decision was reached following a decisive services conference presided over by Government Special Commissioner Massimo Sessa, concluding the approval process in just 90 days.

The project, estimated to cost approximately 1.3 billion euros, is intended to serve as a strategic urban infrastructure and a key venue for the UEFA Euro 2032 tournament. The new facility is expected to have a capacity of roughly 60,600 spectators. The development plan includes significant urban regeneration features, such as the creation of 12 hectares of public green space and the integration of ancient archaeological remains, specifically a Roman cistern known as the Castellum Aquae.

Construction is projected to begin in the spring of 2027, with the goal of completing the stadium by 2029 or 2030. The project will be financed by the Friedkin family and their partners. Beyond sports, the Pietralata area is slated for broader transformation, including improved public transport links, a new railway hub, and the development of the Rome Technopole for science and innovation.
