AS Roma to create Under 23 team for youth development
AS Roma CEO John Galantic has announced the creation of an Under 23 team to bridge the gap between the youth academy and the first team. The project aims to provide an intermediate growth path for young talents, following models used by other major Italian clubs like Juventus, Milan, and Inter.
To implement the project, the club must address two primary challenges: securing a suitable stadium and managing the financial investment. The current Primavera venue, Tre Fontane, requires renovations to meet Serie C standards, leading the club to consider the Stella Polare stadium in Ostia as an alternative.
Financially, the initiative is expected to require an initial investment of approximately 20 million euros, alongside annual operating costs for salaries and logistics estimated between 2.5 and 3.5 million euros. This move is viewed as a “virtuous” investment that could positively impact the club's standing regarding UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations.
