USL Dunkerque defeats AS Saint-Étienne 2-1 in Ligue 2
USL Dunkerque ended AS Saint-Étienne’s perfect start to the Ligue 2 season with a 2-1 victory during the sixth matchday. Despite Saint-Étienne taking an early lead through Augustine Boakye in the 43rd minute, Dunkerque responded in the second half with goals from Ayari and Keita to secure the win.
Prior to the match, Saint-Étienne manager Ian Cathro had expressed confidence in his squad, noting that while the team faced minor physical issues, the group remained strong following five consecutive wins. Cathro had also implemented motivational measures, including a system of bonuses and lighter training sessions to maintain focus.
Despite the loss, Saint-Étienne remains at the top of the Ligue 2 standings, holding a three-point lead over Reims and a four-point lead over Montpellier. Cathro remained composed following the defeat, stating that the team would focus on improving their intensity and rhythm rather than reacting to the result with alarm.
