AS Saint-Étienne secures fifth consecutive Ligue 2 win over Montpellier

AS Saint-Étienne secured their fifth consecutive victory in Ligue 2 with a 3-1 win over Montpellier at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. The victory places the club at the top of the league standings with a five-point lead over Annecy.

Irvin Cardona played a pivotal role in the match, providing two assists for Maxime Bernauer and Joshua Duffus. Augustine Boakye also scored to extend the lead. Despite the win, Saint-Étienne manager Ian Cathro issued a warning to his squad, emphasizing that only players with the correct mindset will remain part of the project.

The club's perfect start to the season mirrors the historic 1973-1974 campaign, where they also won their first four matches. Montpellier coach Zoumana Camara expressed frustration regarding officiating, suggesting that the intense atmosphere at the stadium can influence referee decisions.
