Asaduddin Owaisi challenges electoral roll revision in Supreme Court

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has approached the Supreme Court of India to challenge the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The legal challenge, filed through advocate Nizamuddin Pasha, raises concerns regarding the procedures used in the revision process and potential voter deletions.

Owaisi’s petition seeks judicial scrutiny of the SIR exercise and questions changes made to statutory forms, specifically citing issues with enumeration forms in Bihar. He has also raised questions regarding whether the decisions made by the Election Commission were unanimous.

Owaisi joins other opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, in challenging the electoral roll revision. While the opposition expresses concern over the possible exclusion of eligible voters, the Election Commission maintains that the revision is intended to improve the accuracy of the rolls. The Supreme Court is currently considering whether to list Owaisi’s petition alongside other connected cases regarding the SIR.
