Asaduddin Owaisi urges Telangana government to address El Niño drought threat
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has submitted a memorandum to Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, calling for urgent action to mitigate the impact of El Niño and drought conditions across the state.
Owaisi emphasized the need for a dedicated urban summer action plan to complement existing rural drought response frameworks. His proposed measures for urban areas include securing drinking water supplies for Hyderabad and surrounding regions, specifically prioritizing hospitals, schools, hostels, and orphanages. He suggested increasing tanker capacity based on verified local deficits and establishing both digital and offline grievance routes for water access.
To address groundwater depletion, Owaisi requested the maintenance of a detailed register for municipal and private wells and called for the public release of groundwater bulletins. Additionally, he urged the government to strengthen power infrastructure to ensure reliable electricity for households and agriculture, provide support packages for farmers facing adverse weather, and implement measures to control the rising prices of essential commodities.
