Asaf Avidan officially becomes a Romanian citizen
Israeli singer-songwriter Asaf Avidan has officially become a Romanian citizen. During a ceremony held on Wednesday, the 46-year-old artist took his oath of allegiance alongside two brothers and approximately 30 other individuals from various nations.
Avidan, who was born in Jerusalem and currently resides in France, reclaimed his citizenship based on his Romanian ancestry, as his grandmother was a Romanian citizen. He previously expressed his desire to obtain citizenship during a concert in Romania, noting that the country felt like the “home of his ancestors.”
The ceremony included other new citizens from countries such as Moldova, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia. According to Ioan Turc, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice, the acquisition of Romanian citizenship offers benefits such as visa-free travel to numerous states.
