Asahikawa youths arrested for throwing firecrackers at police box

Two youths, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, have been arrested in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, on suspicion of forcible obstruction of business. The pair is accused of throwing lit firecrackers into the grounds of the Asahikawa Central Police Station Shichijo-dori police box around 2:45 a.m. on August 21.

Although the suspects fled the scene, they were identified through security camera footage and arrested the following day. During police questioning, the 17-year-old boy stated he wanted to play tag with the officers who emerged due to the firecrackers. The 16-year-old girl reportedly used the term ‘Pori-oni’ to describe their intent to play a game of tag with the police. No injuries were reported among the officers on duty at the time.
