Asan Medical Center warns of fraudulent weight loss ads
Asan Medical Center has issued a formal warning regarding illegal identity theft and false advertising circulating on social media. Unauthorized posts have been using the hospital's name and the names of former medical staff to promote specific food ingredients as effective weight-loss solutions, such as ‘natural Wegovy’ or ‘natural Mounjaro’.
The fraudulent advertisements often feature the ‘Chang-yoon Woo recipe’ and include links that direct users to online shopping pages to purchase specific ingredients like tofu and bean sprouts. The hospital clarified that it has no affiliation with these products and does not guarantee their effectiveness.
Dr. Chang-yoon Woo, an endocrinology specialist and former professor at Asan Medical Center, also addressed the issue. He stated that his name is being used illegally to induce product purchases and urged the public to report such posts. While Dr. Woo has previously discussed the importance of protein and fat for satiety in health content, the hospital and the doctor emphasized that these dietary suggestions are not substitutes for medical weight-loss drugs.
