South Korean woman found dead in vehicle after stalking reports

A woman in her 50s was found dead in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked on a national highway in Asan, South Chungcheong Province. The driver, a man in his 60s, was found in critical condition after attempting to ingest poison. Police suspect the man murdered the woman before attempting suicide.

Investigations revealed that the pair, who were former lovers, had been the subject of two police reports this year. In January, a stalking report was filed, but police closed the case after determining the risk was low and the parties agreed to no further action. In June, a report regarding a domestic dispute was also filed, but the case was not pursued because the woman stated she had reconciled with the man and did not wish for punishment or protective measures.

The incident came to light after the woman's sibling filed a missing person report. Police are currently awaiting the man's recovery to conduct a detailed investigation into the motive and circumstances of the crime.
