Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to face in Democracy Cup

Asante Kotoko SC and Accra Hearts of Oak SC are set to face each other in the third edition of the Democracy Cup on Friday, August 28, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The match, scheduled for a 16:00 kick-off, serves to commemorate 32 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana.

FIFA referee Charles Bulu has been appointed to officiate the fixture, supported by assistant referees Seth Abletor and Richard Nartey, with Julian Nunoo serving as the fourth referee. James Odoom will act as the Match Commissioner.

The event takes place amid administrative developments for the participating clubs. Asante Kotoko is noted as the only club to have cleared the Ghana Football Association's club licensing process for the 2026/27 season without sanctions. Meanwhile, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is currently addressing issues regarding its CAF continental certification.
