Asantehene Osei Tutu II Destools 89‑Year‑Old Kenyase II Manhene

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, announced the destoolment of Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, the Kenyase II Manhene, who had reigned since 1937—a tenure of 89 years, the longest in Asanteman history. The traditional council said the chief violated Asante customs, leading to his removal and the dismissal of most of his kingmakers for breaching their oaths. The Kontihene was spared, and several previously destooled linguists and the Akyeame were reinstated, underscoring the Asantehene’s role as custodian of customary law.
