Asaram faces legal action after failing to surrender following parole expiry

Asaram, currently serving a life sentence for the sexual abuse of a minor, has failed to surrender to Jodhpur Central Jail following the expiration of his 20-day medical parole. The parole, granted on October 6 for treatment at Dhanvantari Ayurveda Hospital in Ujjain, expired on Tuesday, with a mandatory surrender deadline of 5:00 PM.

According to reports, Asaram arrived at the Jodhpur airport via air ambulance and proceeded to the prison around 11:00 PM. However, jail authorities denied him immediate entry, citing prison manual regulations that require inmates to enter by sunset. Following this, he reportedly left the prison premises in an ambulance.

Jail administration has taken legal action, with a prison guard filing an FIR at the Ratanada police station. The complaint alleges that Asaram failed to surrender within the stipulated timeframe, effectively classifying him as a fugitive. While Asaram’s supporters have gathered to demand an extension of his parole, the Supreme Court had previously rejected his plea to extend the period, directing an immediate return to prison.
