Ascensión seeks equal gasoline tax incentives for border residents

Arturo Medina, coordinator of the PRI parliamentary group, has presented a legislative proposal to the State Congress demanding that the Federal Government eliminate gasoline surcharges in the municipality of Ascensión. The initiative seeks to grant the municipality the same fiscal incentives applied to other border locations within the Northern Border Free Zone.

Currently, federal authorities determine fuel tax stimuli based on the distance between localities and border crossings. This criteria results in Ascensión receiving lower incentives, causing gasoline prices to be between two and four pesos higher per liter than in Ciudad Juárez or Puerto Palomas. Medina argued that while the government recognizes Ascensión as a border municipality for labor and fiscal obligations, it denies the community the corresponding benefits for fuel costs.
