Aschaffenburg court sentences sexual offender to 11 years

The Aschaffenburg District Court has sentenced a 23-year-old man to eleven years in prison for multiple counts of serious sexual abuse against children. The defendant confessed to sexually abusing a 12-year-old in the Aschaffenburg area and an 11-year-old in Staßfurt, Saxony-Anhalt.

The crimes were reportedly committed during a multi-month prison furlough granted by a juvenile detention center in Hameln, Lower Saxony. Investigators found that the man used social media to contact minors and their families while under the supervision of a specialist outpatient clinic for sexual offenders.

In addition to the abuse charges, the man was convicted of possessing and producing child abuse imagery. The court has reserved the right to order preventive detention (Sicherungsverwahrung) following the completion of his prison sentence, as a psychiatric expert assessed his risk of recidivism as very high.
