Ascoli families stranded by abandoned Superbonus construction

In Ascoli, approximately 120 families living in the Porta Cappuccina district are facing significant hardship due to abandoned construction works. The project, which aimed to renovate six apartment buildings through the Superbonus 110% incentive program, has stalled, leaving residents with unusable balconies and windows due to permanent scaffolding and unfinished structural work.

The renovation was intended to cost roughly 14 million euros and include thermal insulation, new window frames, and the removal of architectural barriers. However, the contractor reportedly left the site before the first SAL (state of progress) could be certified.

Mayor Marco Fioravanti has described the situation as a disgrace and a public health concern. While the municipality has engaged local police, firefighters, and health authorities to coordinate a response, the Mayor noted that the city has limited power to intervene, as the issue involves private property and a private company rather than a natural disaster or public infrastructure failure.
