Ascoli Piceno celebrates 50 years of free radio broadcasting
Ascoli Piceno recently hosted a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of free radio broadcasting in Italy. The event, organized by Mayor Marco Fioravanti, brought together private radio stations from across the country to commemorate the 1976 Constitutional Court ruling that ended the state monopoly held by RAI.
The marathon broadcast, held in Piazza del Popolo, was opened by the historic Apulian station Ciccio Riccio from Brindisi. Publisher Mino Molfetta and speaker Ernesto Solimene led the opening, marking both the industry milestone and their own professional partnership which began in February 1976.
Other notable participants included the event's artistic director, RAI journalist Paolo Notari, and Gino Sabatini, president of the Marche Chamber of Commerce. The celebration highlighted the pioneering era of private broadcasting that followed the legal shift toward a competitive radio landscape.
