Ascoli Piceno to commemorate 83rd anniversary of Resistance uprising

The provincial branch of ANPI, alongside various civil, military, and religious institutions, will hold a ceremony in Ascoli Piceno to mark the 83rd anniversary of the resistance against Nazi occupation.

The commemoration honors the events of September 12, 1943, when the local population and early resistance groups opposed German troops following the armistice. This uprising, involving local airmen and civilians, led to the defeat of German forces in the area and paved the way for the formation of the Colle San Marco partisan brigade.

The ceremony will include the laying of wreaths at several memorial sites: the railway underpass on via SS. Filippo e Giacomo to honor fallen airmen Gaetano Barrile, Antonio D’Urso, Giuseppe Faienza, and Giovanni Verbale; the former Vecchi barracks to remember Concetta Cafini and Adriano Cinelli; and the former military district on corso Mazzini to honor Leone Lepore and Luciano Albanesi.
