ASCOMP Software releases Secure Eraser 7.1 for Windows

ASCOMP Software GmbH has released Secure Eraser 7.1, a Windows-based software designed for the permanent and secure deletion of files, folders, and entire drives. The tool aims to prevent data recovery through conventional methods, making it suitable for users selling computers, replacing hard drives, or performing regular sensitive data cleanups.

The software utilizes established deletion methods, including overwriting with random values and procedures following the NIST SP 800-88 standard. It allows for the secure overwriting of free memory areas, complete partitions, and hard drives, with an option to remove traces of previously deleted files.

Version 7.1 introduces support for high-resolution displays and enhanced code security. It also features improved workflow capabilities, such as the ability to cancel ongoing scans and remember user selections for recurring tasks. According to Andreas Ströbel, Managing Director of ASCOMP Software GmbH, the software combines ease of use with proven deletion methods to support responsible digital information management. The software is free for private use and evaluation, while the Professional Edition for commercial use starts at 29.90 Euro.
