Ombudsman wins Champion Stakes at Ascot British Champions Day

The Qatar Racing British Champions Day at Ascot, the finale of the British Flat racing season, featured five Group 1 races and a total prize pool exceeding £4.3 million.

In the headline event, the Champion Stakes, Ombudsman secured a dominant victory. Trained by John and Thady Gosden and ridden by William Buick, the horse defeated the defending champion Calandagan, who was ridden by Christophe Soumillon. Ombudsman’s win marked the fifth Group 1 victory of his career.

The day’s action commenced with the Two-Year-Old Conditions Stakes, where Night In Vegas narrowly defeated Arapaho Gold by a nose to continue a successful season. Other major contests included the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the British Champions Long Distance Cup.
