Asda launches wholesale convenience store trial in Scotland

Asda has launched ‘Asda Convenience’, a new wholesale supply model designed for independent retailers in the convenience market. The company has invested £1 million to support the initiative, which aims to bring Asda’s value-led product range and pricing to more local communities through wholesale partnerships.

A three-store trial is currently underway in Glasgow, Scotland, in partnership with independent operator One-O-One. These trial locations will operate under the new Asda Convenience fascia and stock approximately 3,500 products, including Asda own-label items, fresh and chilled groceries, and food-to-go options.

This new format is distinct from Asda’s existing, wholly owned Asda Express estate. The company intends to use the initial trial to refine the model and assess its viability for a wider rollout across the United Kingdom. Joseph Sutton, Asda’s Express, Fuel & Wholesale Director, stated that the move is an important step in extending the retailer’s reach by combining its supply chain strengths with the local expertise of independent partners.
