ASDP plans Batam–Johor RoRo ferry service for 2027
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is planning to develop a Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) ferry service to connect Batam, Indonesia, with Johor, Malaysia. The service aims to link Bintang 99 Persada Port in Batam with the Tanjung Belungkor Ferry Terminal in Johor, covering a distance of approximately 27 nautical miles.
Rio Lasse, Director of Operations and Transformation at ASDP, stated that the service is targeted to begin operations by mid-2027. The project is intended to strengthen Indonesia-Malaysia connectivity by facilitating the integrated movement of passengers, vehicles, and cargo. The RoRo model is expected to improve logistics efficiency by allowing vehicles and goods to be loaded directly onto ships and unloaded at the destination, potentially reducing handling times.
While infrastructure at the Bintang 99 Persada Port in Batam is currently available, upgrades are required at the Tanjung Belungkor terminal to support the service. Realization of the project depends on ongoing coordination with stakeholders regarding regulatory alignment and cross-border process synchronization between the two nations.
