Vietnam hosts major 2026 regional sporting events

Vietnam is hosting and participating in several major sporting events in 2026. In football, the Vietnam national team has advanced to the ASEAN Cup 2026 final after defeating Malaysia 4-0 on aggregate, setting up a championship match against Thailand.

In volleyball, the ASEAN Armies' Open Volleyball Tournament has commenced in Hanoi, with Vietnamese military and police teams securing early victories against Myanmar and Laos, respectively. Additionally, the Vietnamese women's team recently secured a championship in an international beach volleyball tournament in Lam Dong province.

Pickleball is seeing significant growth in the region. The VTVcab OPEN 2026 is scheduled for September in Hai Phong, expecting over 1,200 athletes. Other tournaments include the Women's Newspaper Open in Thanh Hoa and the Thanh Nien Newspaper's charity pickleball tournament, which raised 500 million VND in scholarships for children orphaned by COVID-19.

Other regional developments include the Heineken Pickleball World Cup in Da Nang, which drew 5,000 athletes from 81 countries, and the Hanoi International Martial Arts Festival.
