Vietnam reaffirms commitment to ASEAN regional cooperation

Vietnam has reaffirmed its commitment to playing an active and substantive role within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to promote a regional security architecture based on international law.

During a reception for ASEAN ambassadors in Hanoi, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that Vietnam prioritizes relations with neighboring countries and views ASEAN as a central pillar of its foreign policy. He called for strengthened unity, strategic autonomy, and enhanced connectivity in areas such as the digital economy, science, technology, and energy.

In a separate virtual meeting of the ASEAN Plus Defense Senior Officials' Meeting (ADSOM+), chaired by Philippine official Ignacio B. Madriaga, Vice Minister of Defense Nguyen Truong Thang highlighted the importance of defense cooperation in fostering regional peace and stability. The discussions focused on addressing emerging security challenges through digital transformation, innovation, and defense industry cooperation. The meeting also touched upon the upcoming 2026 ASEAN Chairmanship by the Philippines, themed ‘Navigating Our Future, Together’.
