ASEAN engineering delegates visit PT Pindad in Bandung

Delegates from 11 ASEAN nations visited PT Pindad in Bandung, West Java, as part of the 44th Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO) held from October 20–22, 2026. The visit aimed to observe developments in the defense and security industries.

Ilham Akbar Habibie, Chairman of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) and head of the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII), emphasized the importance of engineering competence in designing and implementing technology-based products. He noted that PT Pindad has the potential to become one of only seven companies capable of producing propellant, a critical component for ammunition propulsion systems. Developing such capabilities domestically is seen as vital for Indonesia's strategic sovereignty and defense industry independence.

The conference, themed “Future of ASEAN: Shared Prosperity and Humanity through Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialisation,” brought together engineering leaders, academics, and industry stakeholders. Discussions focused on the role of engineers in driving infrastructure, energy, digital technology, and innovation across the region through cross-border collaboration.
