ASEAN University Games 2026 torch relay begins in Malaysia
The 2026 ASEAN University Games (AUG) torch relay has officially commenced in Malaysia, starting from the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) in Putrajaya. During the launch, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir handed the torch to the Malaysian contingent leader, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ismail.
The relay included national athletes from various disciplines, including long jump, shot put, karate, and taekwondo. The torch is scheduled to travel to several higher education institutions, including Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), Universiti Malaya (UM), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
The AUG 2026 is set to take place from December 10 to 19, featuring approximately 4,669 participants, including 2,849 athletes and officials from 11 countries. The games will compete across 19 sports in Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur, Serdang, and Bangi, with the opening ceremony scheduled for December 12 at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.
