ASELSAN completes NATO VLF communication modernization project

ASELSAN has successfully completed and deployed a modernization project for NATO’s Very Low Frequency (VLF) Over the Air Monitoring (OTAM) equipment ahead of schedule. Developed in collaboration with the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), the project involves integrating ASELSAN’s communication systems into NATO’s existing infrastructure to monitor VLF broadcasts.

VLF technology is critical for maritime security, particularly for communicating with submarines, as these low-frequency radio signals can penetrate seawater more effectively than other frequencies. The modernization aims to enhance NATO’s maritime situational awareness, strengthen sea security, and improve defense and deterrence capabilities against maritime threats.

The project scope included system installation, verification, acceptance testing, and user training. This marks ASELSAN’s first communication contract with the NATO-NCIA, reinforcing the company’s position as a solution provider within the NATO ecosystem.
