ASELSAN's ASELFLIR-500 fitted to South Africa's Mwari aircraft
Turkey's defence contractor ASELSAN has integrated its ASELFLIR-500 electro‑optical discovery, surveillance and targeting system onto the Mwari light multi‑purpose aircraft developed by South Africa's Paramount Aerospace Industries. The 54‑kilogram system combines a high‑resolution mid‑wave infrared camera, a daylight camera, a short‑wave infrared channel, laser range‑finding and target‑designating capabilities with a 35‑km range, AI‑enhanced image processing, a four‑axis gimbal and two‑axis optical stabilization. The integration expands the Mwari platform's ISR, border‑patrol, counter‑insurgency and precision‑strike functions while offering new export opportunities for both firms. Production of the ASELFLIR‑500 began in 2024, and the system is already fitted to Baykar TB2 and TB3 drones and exported to more than 20 countries, underscoring ASELSAN's growing presence in international defence markets.
