Asen Mitkov calls for mentality shift in Bulgaria U21
Asen Mitkov, captain of the Bulgaria U21 national football team, has issued an emotional message to the next generation of players following the conclusion of the European qualifiers. Due to an injury sustained after a match against the Czech Republic, Mitkov was unable to participate in the final game against Scotland in Pazardzhik.
Speaking through the Bulgarian Football Union channels, the Levski Sofia midfielder reflected on the team's journey and emphasized the importance of a collective spirit. Mitkov noted that while the group has built a strong bond through various youth national formations, a change in mentality is essential for future success. He stated, “If we want to move forward, we must change our mentality, because in Bulgaria we are used to doing something good and then ruining it.”
Mitkov urged his successor and the upcoming players to remain united, play collectively, and believe in their abilities. Regarding his personal health, he expressed hope to be available for his club, Levski Sofia, for their upcoming championship match.
