Asen Vasilev criticizes Bulgarian administration following presidential elections
Asen Vasilev, leader of the ‘We Continue the Change’ party, stated that 900,000 voters issued a ‘red card’ to Rumen Radev’s administration following the first round of presidential elections. Vasilev attributed the record-low voter turnout of approximately 22% to a specific assessment of the ‘Progressive Bulgaria’ government’s performance.
Vasilev argued that the administration has failed to deliver on promises of higher incomes, increased security, and the fight against oligarchy. He specifically criticized the 2027 budget parameters, claiming that projected wage growth is lower than expected inflation, which he described as ‘recorded impoverishment’ within the budget.
Regarding national security, Vasilev emphasized the need for Bulgaria to have reliable allies and clear positions against threats. He criticized recent incidents involving drones and ships in the Black Sea, suggesting that previous administrations were more effective at protecting national interests. He also noted the historical economic benefits of the Lukoil Russian oil derogation.
